Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)

Through our funding, two graduate students at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Science will be investigating the potential of aquatic plants for carbon sequestration, particularly focusing on climate mitigation strategies suitable for local conditions in Malawi.

Expected outcomes:

• Bibliographic report and literature review
• Test specifications documentation
• Initial design for small infrastructure capable of capturing 250 tons of CO₂ per year
• Research findings published in peer-reviewed journals

Progress monitoring:

• Regular online meetings (minimum every 6 weeks)
• Comprehensive progress reports
