Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)
Through our funding, two graduate students at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Science will be investigating the potential of aquatic plants for carbon sequestration, particularly focusing on climate mitigation strategies suitable for local conditions in Malawi.
Research Framework
Expected outcomes:
• Bibliographic report and literature review • Test specifications documentation • Initial design for small infrastructure capable of capturing 250 tons of CO₂ per year • Research findings published in peer-reviewed journals
Progress monitoring:
• Regular online meetings (minimum every 6 weeks) • Comprehensive progress reports • Student monitoring and evaluation • Opportunity for collaboration with other universities upon approval
Future development pathways:
Upon successful completion of initial research and demonstrated feasibility: • Partnership renewal • Extended testing phase • On-site installation of small-scale structures
