University of Botswana (UB) & Okavango Research Institute (ORI)

In partnership with the University of Botswana (UB) through its Okavango Research Institute (ORI), we are funding research on the efficiency and characteristics of different aquatic plants for carbon sequestration, focusing on techniques for natural greenhouse gas emission (GHG) mitigation in wetlands. This research aims to develop cost-effective, nature-based solutions for reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide levels while providing additional environmental benefits.

RESEARCH FOCUSES:
GHG emission mitigation
Carbon removal and storage
Fire prevention and management
Bioremediation
Water flow regulation
Heat mitigation

Research Framework

Alignment with regional environmental priorities:

• Okavango Delta ecosystem preservation • Local climate action initiatives • Water resource management • Sustainable development goals

Regional impact goals:

• Local environmental conservation • Climate change mitigation • Water resource management • Community development initiatives

Future development pathways:

• Expansion of research scope • Implementation of pilot projects • Development of regional solutions • Integration with other research initiatives
